The Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy at Montanuniversität
The Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy at Montanuniversität Leoben (Founded in 1840 as „Imperial Academy for Mining and Metallurgy”, now about 3,800 students and 1,300 employers) is dedicated to research and teaching at a high scientific level covering the whole value chain from primary and secondary raw materials, over processing to the final product and recycling. We are particularly committed to the sustainability of iron and steel production and collaboration with industrial partners, research institutes, and universities. Our goal is to provide application-oriented training for highly qualified professionals who will contribute to maintaining Europe as a production hub. We offer a stimulating environment in research and teaching for dedicated young engineers from both domestic and international backgrounds, and we consider ourselves an attractive employer.
Role in the project
The Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy has the following main roles in the HBI C-Flex Project:
- Developer of some facility for reoxidation trials;
- Design and erection of the lab-scale climatic conditions for investigation of reoxidation impact on HBI.
Team
Sergej Nesterov is the project manager, Jan Eisbacher-Lubensky is responsible for the Metallurgical Redox Processes research area, Susanne Michelic and Johannes Schenk, the supervisors, work as the Professors in the research and teaching areas at the Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy at Montanuniversität Leoben.
