In our campaign “Partners of HBI C-Flex”, we are introducing the team members of each partner and their tasks in our project continuing with the team from the Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy from Montanuniversität Leoben, who is responsible for the reoxidation experiments and for the scientific clarification of the reoxidation mechanisms. This includes the main tasks: planning, setting up, and commissioning new laboratory-scale test facilities to ensure defined climatic conditions for carrying out reoxidation tests over a longer period of time. In addition, the team coordinates the experimental handling of the entire process chain, from ore reduction to briquetting and reoxidation tests. The following team is responsible for carrying out these tasks: Sergej Nesterov, Jan Eisbacher-Lubensky, Susanne Michelic, and Johannes Schenk.

Sergej Nesterov is responsible for project realisation, management, and reporting. He is also dedicated to the scientific questions and aims to identify the main influences on the reoxidation behaviour of HBI and their underlying mechanisms.

Jan Eisbacher-Lubensky is the leader of the “HBI C-Flex Project” at the Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy and is responsible for the Metallurgical Redox Processes research area. He is responsible for the scientific issues of the project and project management on the part of the chair.

Susanne Michelic is the head of the Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy and therefore the project general supervisor.

Johannes Schenk supports the project, providing scientific advice whenever needed.

The Chair of Ferrous Metallurgy sees a great opportunity and excellent possibility to be part of an international consortium of leading companies and institutes in the “HBI C-Flex Project”. The sustainability of iron and steel production and collaboration with industrial partners and research institutes are particularly important to them. They also have extensive expertise in the reduction of fine ores and are now seeking to apply this knowledge by establishing a test rig for reoxidation tests. The aim is to conduct application-orientated, highly qualified basic research to understand and describe the fundamental mechanism of reoxidation.
