In our campaign “Partners of HBI C-Flex”, we are introducing the team members of the members of our Supportive Advisory Board and their tasks in our project continuing with the team from the ROGESA Roheisen- und Rohstoffgesellschaft Saar mbH.

ROGESA Roheisen- und Rohstoffgesellschaft Saar mbH

ROGESA Roheisen- und Rohstoffgesellschaft Saar mbH, is a joint subsidiary of Dillinger (Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke), Dillingen, and Saarstahl Aktiengesellschaft, Völklingen. Operational management of ROGESA, as a company without employees, lies in the hands of Dillinger.

ROGESA was founded in 1981 and currently produces up to 4.2 million tons of hot metal each year. The hot metal produced supplies the steel plants of Dillinger and Saarstahl. In addition to hot metal, which is produced exclusively for the two shareholding companies, the production program also includes crushed blast furnace slag as well as granulated blast furnace slag.

In December 2023, the EU Commission approved the funding of the joint decarbonisation project Power4Steel by Dillinger, Saarstahl and the mutual subsidiary ROGESA in the amount of 2.6 billion euros from the federal and state governments.

The construction of a direct reduction plant (DRI) with a capacity of 2 million tons has already begun. The new DR-plant will deliver hot DRI and cold DRI to the electric arc furnaces (EAF) in Dillingen and Völklingen. The aim is to cut carbon emissions by 55 percent by the beginning of the 2030s.

As another part of its decarbonisation strategy, ROGESA is taking a further step towards fully securing the raw material requirements of Dillinger and Saarstahl with its scrap management activities. All activities in the raw materials and scrap sector for Dillinger and Saarstahl are bundled under the umbrella of ROGESA. This includes procurement, transport, handling and processing of scrap.
