In our campaign “Partners of HBI C-Flex”, we are introducing the team members of each partner and their tasks in our project continuing with the team from TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF), Institute of Thermal, Environmental and Resources’ Process Engineering (ITUN)
At the Institute of Thermal, Environmental and Resources’ Process Engineering (ITUN – Head of Institute Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. A.S. Braeuer) research is done in all three aforementioned disciplines of process engineering. Over the years, the Working group of Resources’ Process Engineering gained a lot of expertise in the refinement of mineral and organic feedstocks, especially by agglomeration.
ITUN is responsible for the briquetting of DRI from different reduction processes with varying carbon content and metallisation rate in laboratory scale, the testing of the briquettes (raw density and mechanical strength) as well as the evaluation of the briquetting process on a fundamental research level.
The ITUN team in the HBI C-Flex project consists of four members working on the tasks of HBI production: Volker Herdegen, Franz Fehse, Claudia Lengsfeld and Isabel Rost.
- Dr. Volker Herdegen is Head of the Working group Resources’ Process Engineering at ITUN and is the project manager of ITUN’s subproject in HBI C-Flex.
- Dr. Franz Fehse is Senior Researcher at ITUN and works in the field of agglomeration of mineral and organic feedstocks. In HBI C-Flex he takes care of all work packages associated to ITUN, especially the laboratory-scale briquetting tests and the evaluation of the briquetting.
- Volker and Franz are supported by the laboratory assistants Claudia Lengsfeld and Isabel Rost in the many tasks involved in DRI characterisation, sample handling, carrying out the briquetting tests, and testing the HBI produced.
